FAQ: BESS (Battery Energy Storage System)

What is BESS?

A Battery Energy Storage System stores electricity and uses it when needed—helping you reduce costs and control energy usage.

Who should use BESS?

Hotels, factories, malls, and businesses with high electricity bills or high Maximum Demand charges.

How does BESS save cost?

By reducing peak demand (MD), shifting usage to off-peak tariffs, and storing excess solar energy.

How much can I save?

Typically 10–40% on electricity bills, depending on your load profile and usage.

Can BESS work without solar?

Yes. It can charge from the grid during off-peak hours and discharge during peak hours for ToU User.

Can BESS provide backup during blackout?

Yes, BESS can supply backup power for critical loads.

What is the lifespan of BESS?

Around 10–15 years depending on usage, with performance warranties available.

Is BESS safe?

Yes. Modern systems use Tier 1 lithium (LFP) technology with advanced safety and monitoring systems(EMS).

What size BESS do I need?

Depends on your Maximum Demand, load profile, and savings target. We provide a free assessment.

How long is installation?

Typically 2–3 months including design, approval, and commissioning.

What are the payment options?

CAPEX (outright) or financing/partnership models based on savings.

Can BESS integrate with solar?

Yes. It enhances solar performance by storing excess energy for later use.

FAQ: Solar Non-Domestic (Commercial & Industrial building)

How do solar panels work?

Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity (DC), which is then converted to usable AC power for your building. Excess energy can be stored (BESS) or exported to the grid.

What buildings are considered C&I solar?

Factories, hotels, malls, offices, warehouses, hospitals, and commercial buildings with high electricity usage.

Are there government support schemes in Malaysia?

Yes—key schemes include NEM (Net Energy Metering), Solar ATAP (from 2026), and tax incentives like GITA to improve ROI.

What happens after contract ends?

You fully own the system (CAPEX) or can extend/renew agreements (PPA/lease), depending on your financing model.

What are the benefits of C&I solar?

Reduce electricity costs (up to 40–70%), improve ESG, and hedge against rising tariffs

What should businesses consider before installing?

Electricity usage, roof space, tariff structure (MD & ToU), and ROI.

How to estimate system size?

Based on electricity bill, Maximum Demand, load profile, and available roof space.

How long is ROI/payback?

Typically 3–5 years for C&I due to high tariffs and tax incentives.

What financing options are available?

  • CAPEX (outright purchase)
  • Zero CAPEX / PPA (pay for energy only)

Maintenance & cost?

Minimal. Periodic cleaning and inspection; low annual maintenance cost.

Lifespan & warranty?

Solar panels last 25–30+ years with long-term performance warranty.

Can solar work during blackout?

No, unless integrated with BESS (battery storage) for backup power.

Payment options for CAPEX?

Cash, bank financing, or structured payment plans depending on project size.

How long is installation period?

For capacity <72kWac, it takes about 3 months from licensing application till project completion. However, for capacity >72kWac, the duration extends to approximately 7 months due to the additional time required for ST application, which can take up to 3-4 months.

FAQ: Solar Domestic (Home Residential)

What is Solar ATAP scheme?

Solar ATAP lets you offset your electricity bill using rooftop solar. Excess energy is exported to the grid and credited at market rates (SMP), giving more dynamic value.

Who is eligible for ATAP?

Open to TNB residential users with single-owner premises

How do I determine the right solar size?

Based on your electricity bill, meter type (single/3-phase), and roof space.
We provide free site assessment to recommend the ideal system.

How much can I save?

Typically RM350–RM950/month, depending on system size and usage.

Does solar require maintenance?

Very minimal. Occasional cleaning and inspection every 3–4 years is enough.

What is the lifespan and warranty?

Panels last 30+ years with up to 25 years performance warranty.

Can I use solar during a blackout?

No, unless paired with BESS (battery storage), which provides backup power.

What are the payment options?

Cash payment or credit card installment up to 60 months.

How long is the installation process?

Around 1.5–2 months including approval, installation (1–2 days), and activation.
